SURIN, 6 May 2011 – Surin Governor Serm Chainarong has revealed that a cash donation of over 1.8 million THB will be compensated to those killed, injured or displaced by the recent cross-border fighting between Thai and Cambodian troops.
At the Surin City Hall, Mr Serm convened with relevant state agencies to mull over the assistance for civilians and soldiers impacted by the bloody skirmishes that broke out along the Thai-Cambodian border late last month. According to the Governor, the provincial administration earlier set up a donation center to receive necessities from the public. The donated goods were valued at 2.8 million THB in total and have been distributed to local residents.
A bank account was also opened at the Government Savings Bank to collect monetary aid in addition to the state compensation. The total amount received has surpassed 1.86 million THB and will soon be disbursed to victims of the violent incidents.
In accordance with the meeting’s resolution, eight soldiers and one villager killed will each receive 80,000 THB while 12 soldiers and one villager severely wounded will be given 10,000 THB. Another 85 officers and two civilians with minor to moderate injuries will be paid 5,000 THB each.
Moreover, one villager whose home was entirely destroyed by artillery shells will be compensated 400,000 THB while 20 others will each receive 2,000-15,000 THB, depending on the extent of damages on their residences.
