SURIN, Thailand – Surin province is hosting the world’s largest elephant-back wedding registration event today, Valentine’s Day.
Couples are participating in the ancient “Kuy” ethnic group’s wedding ceremony, known as “Sat Tae,” and registering their marriages atop elephants.
The event is taking place at the Elephant World project, a world-renowned elephant village and study center in Ban Ta Klang, Tha Tum district. Couples are dressed in traditional Kuy attire and are participating in a blessing ceremony led by a shaman. They are then being escorted to their elephants, where they register their marriages.
The event is organized by the Surin Provincial Administration in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand. It aims to promote cultural tourism in the province and showcase the unique traditions of the Kuy people. (TNA)
