BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand is intensifying efforts to restore confidence among Chinese tourists following recent travel cancellations tied to safety concerns. Authorities are focusing on improving perceptions, enhancing safety measures, and promoting positive travel experiences ahead of key tourism periods, including the Chinese New Year.

Thapanee Kiatphaibool, the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), emphasized the importance of managing Thailand’s online image to counter negative perceptions, particularly among first-time Chinese visitors. She noted that most independent travelers remain undeterred, with 90 to 95% maintaining their travel plans. TAT is working to ensure smooth travel arrangements by coordinating with tour agents and airlines. Charter flights are also being promoted to bolster tourist inflows.

TAT’s five offices in China are engaging with online communities to provide clear and authentic communication. These offices are collaborating with key stakeholders to prepare for the Chinese New Year season and strengthen Thailand’s reputation as a welcoming destination, particularly among repeat visitors.

In parallel, Sorawong Thienthong, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, is working with security agencies and the Tourist Police Bureau to enhance safety protocols. The focus is on offering high-quality services, improving security, and delivering positive experiences to sustain Thailand’s appeal as a premier travel destination. (NNT)
