BANGKOK – A taxi driver was fined 3,000 baht and his driving license was revoked after he charged a Swiss couple 6,000 baht in fare from Suvarnabhuimi International Airport to a hotel in Sathorn area.

The taxi driver was summoned by the Inspection Division of the Land Transport Department (DLT) to hear the charges and penalties.

DLT Director-General Sanit Phromwong said the agency has requested all taxi operators to submit a profile of their drivers so that background checks could be made. Such procedure would make it easier to keep track of taxi drivers with driving misdemeanors and to insure public safety.

Those who may be concerned about their own safety or would like to make complaints about taxi rides can call Hotline 1584 around the clock.
