BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has announced that a new moderate cold front from China has spread across northern Thailand, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperatures by 1–3°C. The cold front is expected to bring cooler weather, accompanied by strong winds, particularly affecting the upper regions of the country.
The department’s 24-hour forecast indicates that this cold weather system, a high-pressure area from China, is now covering northern Thailand and the South China Sea. As a result, temperatures in northern and northeastern Thailand are expected to cool further, with the weather becoming noticeably chillier in the early morning hours. The mountainous areas, especially the peaks of higher elevations, will experience cold weather, with temperatures expected to dip between 8°C to 15°C.
While the cold front is expected to make the weather feel much cooler, the department has also issued warnings regarding the increased risk of fire hazards due to dry conditions and strong winds in many areas. In addition, the public is advised to take extra care in protecting their health from the sudden change in temperature, especially in the highland areas.
The cold weather will also affect Bangkok and the surrounding areas, where the temperature will slightly drop. The capital is expected to experience windy conditions, with temperatures ranging between 23°C to 25°C in the early morning and rising to between 32°C to 35°C during the day. Winds from the northeast will be at a speed of 10–25 km/h.
Meanwhile, in southern Thailand, the northeast monsoon has intensified, bringing heavier rain to the lower regions of the country. This includes provinces like Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, where significant rainfall is expected. The department has issued a cautionary note to the public to be aware of possible flooding and other adverse weather conditions.
The southern regions are also facing rough seas, with waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand reaching up to 2 meters and 1–2 meters in the upper Gulf. The Andaman Sea is experiencing waves about 1 meter high, with higher waves in areas of thunderstorms.
As for air quality, while there has been a slight decrease in the accumulation of dust and smoke in northern Thailand due to the stronger winds, air quality remains in the “moderate” to “good” range, according to the department’s latest updates.
