Bangkok – Temples across the country are preparing for Makha Bucha Day activities on Tuesday.

At Phuttha Monthon in Nakhon Pathom, Sangha Supreme Council member Phra Promwachirayan, on behalf of the Supreme Patriarch, chaired a Makha Bucha ceremony in honor of Their Majesties King Rama X and Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign.

At Wat Siri Maha Katchai in Nong Khai, an alms giving ceremony will be held on Tuesday morning followed by a candle procession around the floating chedi in the evening.

Wat Pho Chai in Nong Khai also expects large numbers to attend its alms giving and candle procession ceremony. Festivities will include dharma preachings for both Thai and Lao attendees.

Makha Bucha is observed on the full moon day of the third lunar month. It celebrates a gathering that was held by the Buddha and 1,250 of his first disciples who were all enlightened on hearing the Lord Buddha address them.
