CHIANG RAI, Nov 20 — Law enforcement agencies launched a joint operation, raiding 50 targeted locations in the northern province of Chiang Rai believed linked to a suspected drug trafficker and seized assets worth more than Bt500 million suspected being acquired through the illicit drug trade.

A combined force of 500 police, military, provincial administrators and personnel from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board raided 50 locations in Mae Chan, Mae Sai and Mae Fah Luang in a drug suppression operation.

Among the 50 locations, five were major drug warehouses and homes of drug syndicate network figures.

The authorities, meanwhile, seized the assets of Jamras Sompongphan, an alleged member of a major drug trafficking ring in the Golden Triangle, formerly run by its late leader Naw Kham.

Police confiscated assets of more than Bt500 million from Mr Jamras in Mae Sai district to be determined whether they were acquired from illicit drug trading.

A Chinese court earlier this month sentenced Shan drug lord Naw Kham and three of his subordinates to death for the murder of 13 Chinese sailors on the Mekong River last year.
