The Bank of Thailand has unveiled a new collection of banknotes celebrating the royal coronation of His Majesty the King, which took place last year.
The Bank of Thailand (BOT) had received a royal permit to print a new collection of banknotes celebrating the royal coronation ceremonies of His Majesty the King in 2019, as a record of a major historic event, expressing the unique identity of Thailand.
These new banknotes will enter the market from 12th December 2020, which marks the anniversary of the royal barge procession, held as one of the royal coronation ceremonies last year.
The new banknotes will be available in two denominations, namely 10 million 1,000 baht banknotes, and 20 million 100 baht banknotes.
The celebratory banknote designs will feature a portrait, as opposed to the landscape design of regular Thai baht banknotes. The notes are being printed using 3D magnetic ink, enabling an anti-counterfeit color-shifting feature, similar to the technology used in the current banknotes.
The celebratory 100 baht banknotes will be printed in yellow, as opposed to the light red color of regular 100 baht notes. Scenes from the royal coronation ceremonies will be printed on the backs of both 100 and 1,000 baht celebratory banknotes. These new banknotes can be used legally for payments according to the denominations.
Members of the public will be able to exchange their current banknotes for new ones of the exact same value at commercial banks, the Government Savings Bank, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Government Housing Bank, and the Islamic Bank of Thailand.
The new 100 baht notes will also be available at ATM machines displaying an indicating sign. (NNT)
