Thai delegation visits Sri Lanka to assess and explore potential for investment in renewable energy

The delegation visited the Deduru Oya Dam in Kurunegala District and the Yan Oya Dam in Anuradhapura District. Both dams are used for agriculture and water reservoirs.

Ms.Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, led a Thai delegation of representatives from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), EGAT International Co., Ltd., PTT Public Company Limited, and Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited, on a visit to Sri Lanka to assess and explore the potential for Thai investment in renewable energy in Sri Lanka May 21-23, 2024. H.E.Mr. Paitoon Mahapannaporn, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka also joined the visit.



The delegation visited the Deduru Oya Dam in Kurunegala District and the Yan Oya Dam in Anuradhapura District. Both dams are used for agriculture and water reservoirs. These sites are potential areas where the Sri Lankan authorities are studying the feasibility of developing them into locations of renewable energy, particularly floating solar farms.

The delegation also met with senior executives from Hayleys Fabric, Sri Lanka’s largest textile manufacturer for export, to study their pilot floating solar farm project which has a capacity of 35 kWh and is currently being tested before being implemented in various potential locations. (MFA)
