The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a hotline for the Thai Embassy in Jakarta to care for Thai citizens in Indonesia while affirming that a major attack on the city will not impact ASEAN cooperation.
Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of Information, Sek Wannamethee, disclosed a plan to assist Thai citizens living in Indonesia after several gun and bomb attacks took place in the nation’s capital of Jakarta yesterday. He revealed that the Thai Embassy in Jakarta has established a hotline at +62 811186253, allowing Thai nationals to request assistance 24 hours a day.
The director-general added that the ministry has not yet issued a travel ban for Thais to Indonesia as most head to Bali rather than Jakarta and the ministry wishes to avoid impacting tourists. He advised however that Thai travelers be aware of their embassy’s contact information and notify it of their itinerary so that they may be cared for in an emergency situation.
Sek voiced confidence that the incident yesterday will not impact cooperation within ASEAN even with the ASEAN headquarters being located in Jakarta. He made known that all ASEAN nations are sharing security intelligence with the National Security Council handling the data in Thailand.
