Nanning – Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit has led a group of government officials and entrepreneurs to Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to attend the 16th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO).

Over the weekend, Thai officials and entrepreneurs met with Chinese Vice-Premier Han Zheng, who oversees China’s economy, to strengthen economic ties and promote bilateral trade and investment.

Thailand is promoting the export of rice, para rubber, cassava, fruit and poultry, as China has been importing more Thai products every year. As a result, ASEAN and China have agreed to set China’s tariffs at zero for more than 90% of ASEAN’s exports.

The Ministry of Commerce has continually organized events to boost trade and investment between Thailand, China and the member states of ASEAN. Last year, exports of Thai fruit reported growth of US$1 billion. Over the past seven months, the export value of fruit shipped to China was US$1.1 billion. The total value of trade between the two countries is US$44.9 billion.
