BANGKOK, Thailand – According to a report from the Thailand Film Office (TFO), the Thai film industry experienced significant growth in 2024. The country welcomed 491 foreign film productions, generating over 6.58 billion baht (US$194 million).
These productions were from 42 countries, with major contributions from Japan, which produced 66 projects, followed by India with 57, South Korea with 44, and the U.S.A. with 40. As for money spent, Hong Kong led as the biggest spender with US$39.25 million, followed by the U.S.A. with US$30.32 million, the U.K. with US$26.47 million, and Germany with US$18.88 million.
Filming locations took place in 64 provinces, with Bangkok hosting 325 productions, Pathum Thani hosting 85, Chon Buri hosting 68, and Phuket hosting 37. The most popular production types included advertising, documentaries, and feature films.
In comparison, 2023 saw 466 foreign productions, generating 6.6 billion baht (US$195 million) in revenue. The 2024 increase underscores the effectiveness of Thailand’s enhanced incentives in driving international interest.
In 2025, the TFO is providing an updated incentive measure to attract global filmmakers, with a cash rebate of up to 30% on qualifying spending, effective on 1 January. More information on applying for filming incentives in Thailand can be found on the TFO website: www.tfo.dot.go.th. (PRD)
