A survey on cybersecurity has revealed that 88% of operational technology (OT) firms in Thailand suffered cyber-intrusions within the past 12 months.
In March of this year, the “Global 2022 State of Operational Technology and Cybersecurity Report” by Fortinet, a global cybersecurity business, polled over 500 OT professionals worldwide, including those in Thailand.
Peerapong Jongvibool, vice president for Southeast Asia and Hong Kong at Fortinet, stated that as the IT security landscape becomes more complex, networked OT systems have also become susceptible to these expanding risks.
Peerapong stated that with 93% of agencies globally experiencing intrusion, the issue substantially impacts businesses’ productivity and must be addressed immediately. He noted that malware, ransomware, and hackers were the top three intrusions against Thai businesses.
According to Fortinet, 89% of Thai OT enterprises facing assaults were back online within a few hours, while the remaining 1% required days, weeks, or months. In addition, 71% of Thai OT businesses encountered operational disruptions that endanger physical safety, productivity, and income.
The poll also found that 18% of Thai OT firms have between one thousand and ten thousand IP-enabled devices in operation, a severe cyber security weakness that makes it easy to launch an attack. (NNT)
