Thai Foreign Minister meets with members of Parliament of Sri Lanka and Ambassador

Both sides emphasized the close relations between the two countries in all dimensions. They agreed to promote cooperation in trade and investment, particularly following the historic signing of Thailand – Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in February 2024.

H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra,Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, held discussions with members of Parliament of Sri Lanka and H.E. Mrs. Colonne Appuhamillage Chaminda Inoka Colonne, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand on 30 May 2024.

Both sides emphasized the close relations between the two countries in all dimensions. They agreed to promote cooperation in trade and investment, particularly following the historic signing of Thailand – Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in February 2024. Priorities were given to the investment in the fisheries and alternative energy sectors. Both sides also gave updates on the proposed visa exemption scheme for ordinary passport holders.



The Thai side also reiterated its request for the Sri Lankan side to take good care of the 2 Thai elephants gifted to Sri Lanka. Furthermore, in July, the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo will bring 73 civil officers from Sri Lanka to be ordained in Thailand on the auspicious occasion of the 72nd Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the King. Concurrently, the Sri Lankan side requested assistance from Thailand in facilitating the return of Sri Lankans stranded in Myanmar through Thailand. Thailand expressed readiness to facilitate the request. (MFA)
