The recent visit of Thailand’s Foreign Minister to China has strengthened cooperation in various sectors, highlighting the importance of China as Thailand’s top trading partner and investor. The visit also underscored the collaborative efforts between the two nations in crime suppression, pollution control, and economic enhancement.
Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa met with several key Chinese leaders, including Vice President of China Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Their discussions covered a wide range of topics, such as the China-Laos-Thailand railway project and establishing Thailand as a regional hub for electric vehicle (EV) components. Minister Maris also focused on educational cooperation and technology transfer to prepare the workforce in both countries.
Additionally, Maris met with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, who expressed strong support for Thailand. They discussed enhancing bilateral relations under the Pheu Thai-led government, with an emphasis on continued cooperation and mutual benefit.
The visit included discussions with Ge Haijiao, Chairman of the Bank of China, who committed to facilitating Thai business investments in China and encouraging Chinese investments in Thailand. This aligns with the Thai government’s pro-business strategy to foster economic growth through diplomatic engagement.
Following his visit to China, the Thai Foreign Minister is set to attend the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in New Delhi, India, where he will engage in discussions to promote regional cooperation and Thailand’s role as a bridge builder within the Global South. (NNT)
