The Thai government has announced the postponement of the 6th Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit, originally scheduled for September 3-4, 2024. The decision has been made amid Thailand’s ongoing political transition, including the formation of a new government and related parliamentary and legal processes.

Thai authorities explained that the postponement is necessary to ensure the country is fully prepared to address and advance issues that benefit both Thailand and the member countries of BIMSTEC. Invitations have been extended to the leaders of BIMSTEC member nations, and further updates on the event’s rescheduling will be provided in due course. (NNT)
