Thai hospitals use more herbal medicine in 2010

CHAINAT, 7 August 2011 – Public Health Ministry has revealed that the value of herbal medicines used in Thailand increased in 2010. 

Permanent Secretary for Public Health MD Paichit Warachit said the Ministry had been promoting the use of traditional medicines together with Western medicines. He said all of the hospitals under the Ministry provided Thai herbal medicines as an alternative cure.

Currently, 71 herbal medicines have been registered under the National List of Essential Medicine.

According to MD Paichit, the value of herbal medicine used in health stations and hospitals across the country was worth 146 million THB in 2010. Going by province, Chon Buri used most herbal medicines, followed by Surin, and Khon Kaen.
