MAE SOT, Thailand – A joint operation by the military, police, administrative officers, and immigration officials uncovered 13 foreign nationals overstaying in hotels in Mae Sot district, Tak province, on February 14. The foreign nationals, including individuals from Ethiopia, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and China, were found to be staying beyond their permitted stay in Thailand.
The operation, led by Tak Immigration, along with local police and administrative officers, was carried out after receiving intelligence from undercover informants about foreign nationals staying at hotels in the area.
The inspection targeted two key locations, one near Intharakiri Road and Wat Bunyawad, and another near a major shopping center in Mae Sot. The operation revealed that 13 individuals from various countries had overstayed their visas, with the breakdown as follows: 7 from Ethiopia, 1 from Kenya, 1 from Sri Lanka, 1 from Indonesia, and 3 from China.
The inspection was conducted as part of a government and military policy to ensure strict enforcement of immigration regulations. The authorities had received reports of foreign nationals suspected of staying illegally in the country, prompting the operation.
Tak Immigration officials emphasized that there would be heightened vigilance in monitoring both incoming and outgoing travelers, particularly at airports and border checkpoints and confirmed that individuals found with expired visas would be deported in accordance with Thai immigration laws.
