Minister of Interior Gen Anupong Paochinda reassured the Senate in a session today of the government’s active plans for systematic water management, as the country faces heavy precipitation.

In response to Senator Panthep Klanarongran’s inquiry, the Interior Minister said the government has prepared 13 main flood response plans, together with a management plan to save some of the water for use in the dry season.

Gen Anupong said Thailand is facing heavier than expected precipitation caused by the current monsoon.
He said water discharges at reservoirs are being performed according to the criteria that minimize the impacts on downstream communities.

Regarding the current flooding, the Interior Minister said efforts are being made to urgently tackle the issue, from weather monitoring to alerting villagers, and providing assistance as needed.

He said each province is well prepared to activate flood response plans, while the current system remains capable of managing more rains and storms. (NNT)
