The conflict between Russia and Ukraine would not have any impact on the country’s import of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) but might affect local energy prices, according to the Energy Ministry.
Kulit Sombatsiri, permanent secretary for energy, said Thailand imported only 5.22 million liters of crude oil a day from Russia and the import formed only 3% of its total crude import. The most crude oil import of the country or 55% came from the Middle East, he said.
Meanwhile, imported LNG from many sources constituted about 18% of all LNG consumed in the country.
As of Feb 21, Thailand reserved 3.2 billion liters of crude oil plus 1.46 billion more liters being transported to the country. Besides, it had 1.67 billion liters of refined oil. The stocks were enough for consumption for longer than two months, he said.
“I assure that although the Russia-Ukraine crisis raises the global crude price to US$100 per barrel and affects the world, the Energy Ministry will do its best to minimize impacts on people,” Mr Kulit said. (TNA)
