BANGKOK, May 7 – A Thai man was injured today in the eruption of a Philippine volcano.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Manasvi Srisodapol said the Thai embassy in Manila confirmed via the Philippine Defence Ministry that a Thai man is among five injured persons. Initially, no one was severely hurt.

He said five Thais were staying at the second upper base camp when the volcano erupted. The Thai embassy is trying to contact them to provide further assistance.

Five people were killed–four Germans and one Filipino–when the Mayon volcano in Albay province, one of the Philippines’ most active volcanoes erupted on Tuesday, throwing rocks on to foreign climbers and their Filipino guides.
