The government has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the controversial Chana Industrial Estate project now facing pushback from a group of protestors.
Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha appointed Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow as head of the fact-finding committee. The industrial city development project in Chana of Songkhla involves the rezoning of agricultural areas.
The committee will be looking into the Triangle of Prosperity, Stability, and Sustainability model city campaign, which was the original project but was later extended to include Chana as the model city for future industries.
Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said a government-appointed working committee was earlier dispatched to collect information from the project site, in order to inform members of the Cabinet on the persisting issues.
He noted every process of the development project must take into consideration local people’s concerns, and that any decisions made must be fair, transparent, and beneficial to all. (NNT)
