BANGKOK, Sept 8 — Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will make her first overseas trip since assuming office this weekend with introductory visits to four member countries of the 10-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN), according to Government Spokesperson Thitima Chaisaeng.

Ms Thitima said Ms Yingluck will pay an official visit to Brunei this Saturday and expects to exchange ideas and extend frameworks of cooperation between the two countries as Brunei is also a member of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

She said the OIC has cooperated with and supported Thailand in attempting to resolve continuing problems in its three insurgency-plagued southern border provinces.

On Monday (Sept 12), the premier will travel to Indonesia which now chairs ASEAN and is also a member of the OIC.

During the visit, Ms Yingluck will discuss cooperation with Indonesia in energy and joint investments in fisheries.

She will also thank Indonesia for coordinating and supporting the process to find a peaceful solution to the Thai-Cambodian border conflict.

On Thursday (Sept 15), she will visit Phnom Penh, the Cambodian capital, and fly to Vientiane on the following day, the Thai government spokesperson said.

Ms Thitima said that Ms Yingluck will visit each country for one day with no overnight stay in any country because of her hectic domestic schedule of work engagements.
