Thai police enforce laws over illegal possession and discharge of firearms during Loy Krathong celebrations

Police nationwide have been instructed to strictly enforce laws pertaining to the illegal possession and discharge of firearms in public during Loy Krathong celebrations.

Members of the public who discharge firearms, such as in celebration, during Loy Krathong festivities can face severe penalties that may include a 10,000-baht fine or up to five years in prison, or both.

According to the Royal Thai Police, injuries and fatalities resulting from discharged firearms can incur even higher penalties of 60,000-200,000 baht and/or up to 10 years in prison.



Police nationwide have been instructed to strictly enforce laws pertaining to the illegal possession and discharge of firearms in public during Loy Krathong celebrations.

The use of firecrackers, fireworks and sky lanterns are also banned in order to ensure public safety during the festivities. (NNT)
