BANGKOK – The Thai Red Cross Society is increasing its blood reserves in preparation for the New Year holidays when demand usually surges.

As the New Year Festival draws near, a number of charitable people are paying a visit to the National Blood Center of the Thai Red Cross Society to donate their blood. The Thai Red Cross is now prepared to launch a blood donation campaign from December 21 to January 10, aiming to stock enough blood for the coming holidays and prevent shortages.

During the blood drive, donation hours will be expanded, starting from 7.30 am to 7.30 pm daily. Donors joining the campaign will also receive special souvenirs from the Thai Red Cross. The acquired blood will be distributed to hospitals, both in Bangkok and the provinces.

Normally, the National Blood Center targets to collect about 1,500 units of blood every day in order to maintain at least 3,000 units in its blood bank. However, during the New Year holiday period when the number of road accidents and casualties tends to peak, the Center is planning to raise the daily amount of incoming blood to 2,000 units.
