BANGKOK, 16 July 2012 –Thai students won four medals from the 23rd International Biology Olympiad 2012, which took place in Singapore.
The four students arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Sunday evening, amidst the rapturous welcome from their families, friends, and representatives of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST).
IPST President Dr. Pornpun Waitayangkoon revealed that after sending Thai students to participate in the International Biology Olympiad in Singapore during July 8-15, four Thai students won two gold, one silver, and one bronze medals.
Two students from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School: Ms. Metawee Chomthong and Mr. Araya Tapangpan each won a gold medal. Meanwhile Mr. Paween Kleawpiya from Bangkok Christian College grabbed a silver medal and Mr. Puwanat Sangkapreecha from Triam Udom Suksa School took a bronze medal from the event.
Professors from Chulalongkorn, Kasetsart, and Walailak Universities helped coach the four students during the competition.
Ms. Metawee said the Olympiad event encourages Thai students to have more interests in science, while the competition stimulates them to learn more.
