BANGKOK, 30 March 2017 (NNT) – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has revealed that the tourism revenue in the past six months increased by as much as 4.6% compared to the same period a year before.
Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul disclosed that Thailand earned 1.33 trillion baht from the tourism sector from October last year to March 27th this year. Out of the total revenue, 860 billion baht came from foreign tourists and the remaining was from domestic tourism.
Revenue generated from foreign and Thai tourists increased by 2.7% and 8.3% during this period. The majority of foreign visitors were from China, Russia, Malaysia, England and the United States respectively. The Andaman Sea was ranked the most popular destination in Thailand followed by the northern region and the east coast.
In an effort to promote sports tourism, the Cabinet has endorsed a decision to allow Thailand to host an international conference called ‘Sport Accord Convention 2018’ which will be held in April next year. It is aimed at boosting sports tourism in the country by 30% and encouraging Thais to play sports.
