Thailand aims to become the world’s leader in food exports with target for 10% growth in the average 800 billion baht food export value a year.
This was declared by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak at the opening of “THAIFEX-World of Food Asia”,at Challenger, Muangthong Thani, Bangkok yesterday.
He said Thailand exported food to over 200 countries with five food exports among the world’s highest in export values.
They are rice, processed chicken, canned seafood, processed seafood, and food flavour which amounted to get 800 billion baht average annually.
He said Thailand’s strength in the food industry are of its great variety of raw materials and highly experienced producers.
But as about 45 per cent of Thai food exports are unprocessed raw materials, more modern technology and more innovation will be promoted to add value to its food export and decrease the proportion in near future.
