Thailand and China to establish 50 sister city partnerships to mark diplomatic milestone

As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations, Thailand and China are set to expand their Sister City partnerships to 50 pairs, reinforcing bilateral cooperation at the provincial and municipal levels.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul accompanied Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on her official visit to China, engaging in high-level discussions with President Xi Jinping and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC).

As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations, Thailand and China are set to expand their Sister City partnerships to 50 pairs, reinforcing bilateral cooperation at the provincial and municipal levels. The initiative aims to enhance people-to-people connectivity, fostering cultural exchange, economic collaboration, and long-term strategic ties between Thai and Chinese local governments. The Ministry of Interior will oversee the implementation of this initiative.



Following diplomatic meetings, Prime Minister Paetongtarn and her delegation, accompanied by senior Chinese officials, participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tiananmen Square.

The Thai delegation later attended a luncheon hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, commemorating Thailand’s historic engagement with China and reaffirming the commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple sectors. (NNT)
