BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra warmly welcomed Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Government House on November 28, marking a significant milestone in the 60-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations. The two leaders signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in civil service, green investment, digital economy, and regional connectivity, underscoring a shared commitment to sustainable development.

During a joint press conference, Prime Minister Paetongtarn expressed her honor in hosting PM Wong as the first foreign leader to visit Thailand since she assumed office. She highlighted the historical and strategic significance of the visit, noting the growing collaboration between the two nations ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2025.



The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including food and energy security, renewable energy, digital transformation, and the green economy. Thailand pledged to bolster Singapore’s food security by exporting premium rice and organic eggs, while both nations committed to advancing investments in renewable energy and green technologies to achieve carbon neutrality.

Education and human capital development also featured prominently, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of upskilling and reskilling the workforce to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global landscape. Thailand expressed gratitude for Singapore’s educational scholarships for Thai civil servants and reaffirmed a shared goal to deepen people-to-people connections.

On regional matters, both countries reiterated their commitment to ASEAN’s role in fostering stability, particularly concerning the ongoing crisis in Myanmar. PM Wong praised Thailand’s efforts in hosting extended informal consultations among ASEAN nations to address the issue.

Prime Minister Wong expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation in green initiatives, digital integration, and energy security. He reaffirmed Singapore’s readiness to collaborate closely with Thailand to elevate bilateral relations to new heights in the coming years.
