Thailand and Singapore to join hands helping Rohingya migrants

BANGKOK, 31 May 2015 – Thailand and Singapore have joined hands to solve the Rohingya migrant issue and has agreed to provide them with humanitarian aid.

The Spokesman of the Ministry of Defence has disclosed the result of the meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Gen Prawit Wongsuwon and the Minister of Defense of Singapore Ng Eng Hen, regarding military cooperation and relief provided to the Rohingya migrants, as well as to the cooperation between both nations on the 50th anniversary of Thailand-Singapore relations in 2015.

According to the spokesperson, the Singaporean Defense Minister expressed his understanding towards the situation in Thailand, and encouraged the Thai government to pull the nation through the crisis.

The Thai DPM also had a meeting with the Korean Minister of Defence Han Minkoo, during which both countries agreed to increase their military cooperation in keep with the agreement made on 2012, especially in relation to the national defense industry. The Korean Defense Minister expressed his gratitude for Thailand’s troops participation in the Korean War, and affirmed his support for the Thai government during the country’s major transition period.

The DPM also discussed with the Minister of Defence of Sri Lanka, tightening the relations between the two countries on the occasion of the 60th year anniversary Thailand – Sri Lanka relations in 2015, with the Permanent-Secretary of Defence Ministry of both sides setting up a joint working committee for this occasion.
