During a visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Thailand on 20-21 June 2024, Thailand and Timor-Leste mutually agreed to waive visas for their citizens to promote tourism in both countries. The visa exemption is good for visits of up to 30 days.
This cooperation not only facilitates travel between the two countries; it also enhances their cooperation, especially in tourism, the economy, society, and culture, as well as at the people-to-people level.
Furthermore, the visa exemption is a condition that will help Timor-Leste to become a new member of ASEAN. The country received observer status from ASEAN in 2022 as part of a roadmap to become the 11th ASEAN member. (MFA)
