Thailand appoints special envoy for relations with Myanmar

According to Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai, the ministry appointed Pornpimol Kanchanalak to closely monitor and handle all relevant issues within the ministry in accordance with the foreign minister’s policies on Myanmar.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appointed Thailand’s first special envoy for relations with Myanmar to handle issues between the two nations.

According to Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai, the ministry appointed Pornpimol Kanchanalak to closely monitor and handle all relevant issues within the ministry in accordance with the foreign minister’s policies on Myanmar.

Pornpimol will represent Thailand in domestic and international negotiations, as well as coordinate Thai-Myanmar issues with other agencies and the private sector.

The envoy will be assisted by a senior foreign ministry official and have an office inside the Prime Minister’s Office. She will also directly report to the foreign minister on policy implementation and important developments.



The ministry said her appointment is meant to ensure effective developments in addressing issues between the two countries, as Myanmar is strategically important to Thailand in areas of geopolitics, economy, society and national security. (NNT)
