Wattanasak Sueaiam, director-general of the department, said the department made the move after discussing chicken egg prices with the Department of Livestock Development, the Office of Agricultural Economics, the Association of Hen-Egg Farmers, Traders and Exporters and the Layer Farmer Association.

According to Mr Wattanasak, the cost of layer farmers rose and the Department of Livestock Development confirmed the cost at 2.94 baht per egg because hot weather reduces the laying and sizes of eggs and the Russia-Ukraine war raises the prices of many raw materials.

To help both farmers and consumers, the parties agreed to cap the ex-farm price of chicken eggs in mixed sizes at 3.20 baht per egg. The retail price of chicken eggs in Size 3 was at 3.47 baht per egg on average in accordance with the ex-farm price, Mr Wattanasak said.

He predicted that about 700,000-800,000 tons of corn yields in the next few months would help reduce the farmers’ cost. He also hoped that the agreement of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry, the Ministry of Commerce and organizations concerned to ease restrictions on the import of the raw materials of feed would also help reduce feed costs.
