Thailand, China celebrate 40 years of diplomatic ties

BANGKOK, 19 July 2015 – Thailand and China have celebrated four decades of diplomatic ties between the two countries with a plan to heighten all levels of cooperation.

President of the Privy Council Gen Prem Tinsulanonda, over the weekend, chaired the official celebration of 40 years of Thai-Chinese diplomatic ties, which have seen several amicable cooperation in such areas as trade, investment and culture.

And during his special speech at the ceremony, Gen Prem said that, as a former government leader, he has been invited to visit China many times and he believes all the trips have helped keeping both countries’ ties strong.

He added that, even with the fast changes in political and economic conditions, communications between both countries’ private sectors have been cordial.

Gen Prem went on to say that cultural exchange should also help promote international relations and lead to the expansion of other areas of cooperation.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Ning Fukui said that, after 40 years of diplomatic ties, the Thailand-China relations look ready to be stronger and more secure, particularly in the areas of politics, economics and education.

China is now the biggest export market and trading partner of Thailand under the push from both governments.
