BANGKOK – The Ministry of Transport and China’s National Development and Reform Commission have called a ninth round of meeting on the joint railway construction project.
The discussion entailed issues influencing the construction mainly estimates of passenger number and freight, investment value and a collaborative plan for the next six months. Transport Minister Arkom Termpitayapaisit disclosed that the joint investment plan should be concluded and presented to the cabinet within two months.
Blueprints for Bangkok – Kaeng Khoi and Kaeng Khoi – Nakhon Ratchasima lines have been 80 percent completed. They are expected to be finalized in December and submitted to the cabinet either in January or February next year.
Layouts for Kaeng Khoi – Map Ta Phut and Nakhon Ratchasima – Nongkhai lines have been 50 percent completed. The foundation-laying ceremony for the control and management center in Ayutthaya Province will take place on 19th December.
The Transport Minister revealed that both sides would have another round of meeting to conclude on the interest rate for the loans. China proposed an interest rate of 2.5 percent on its loan while the government insists on an interest rate of two percent.
