BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand and China have signed a new agreement on inspection and sanitary protocols for farmed aquatic products, paving the way for large-scale seafood exports. The protocol, signed by Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Naruemon Pinyosinwat and China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) during Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s visit to China, establishes trade guidelines to facilitate exports of Thai aquaculture products.
Under the agreement, white seabass has become the first aquaculture product approved for export to China, with expected shipments exceeding 50,000 metric tons annually. The trade is projected to generate over 4.9 billion baht per year, providing a significant boost to Thailand’s seafood industry.
The protocol sets sanitary and quarantine standards for farmed aquatic products, streamlining approval processes for future seafood exports. Compliance with China’s strict import regulations will enhance Thailand’s ability to compete in one of the world’s largest seafood markets.
