Although GDP per capita placed Thailand 81st worldwide, recent economic developments have contributed to growing public confidence in stability and quality of life.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has jumped nine places in the World Happiness Report 2025, moving from 58th to 49th globally, with an average score of 6.22. The country now ranks third among ASEAN countries and is the fastest-climbing nation in Asia. The annual report, compiled by the University of Oxford and its partners, draws on data from the Gallup World Poll and other international sources.

In the regional context, only Singapore (34th) and Vietnam (46th) placed higher than Thailand among ASEAN members. The Philippines ranked 57th, followed by Malaysia at 64th, Indonesia at 83rd, Laos at 93rd, Cambodia at 124th, and Myanmar at 126th. Finland maintained its position as the world’s happiest country for the eighth consecutive year.

Thailand’s progress was based on six core metrics, including perception of corruption, freedom to make life choices, social support, healthy life expectancy, generosity, and GDP per capita. The country performed strongly in social support, ranking 8th globally, highlighting close family ties and strong community networks across Thai society.

Although GDP per capita placed Thailand 81st worldwide, recent economic developments have contributed to growing public confidence in stability and quality of life. Improvements across several indicators suggest that broader well-being is on the rise despite remaining economic challenges.

Officials say the findings provide useful insight into Thailand’s current position and areas for further development. While the country’s rise in the rankings is encouraging, ongoing efforts will be needed to maintain progress and improve overall life satisfaction in the years ahead. (NNT)
