Thailand is following up situations in the Taiwan Strait while adhering to its one-China policy and hoping all parties prioritize peaceful solutions, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Regarding United States House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, Tanee Sangrat, spokesman of the ministry, said Thailand was monitoring situations in the Taiwan Strait with high concern and it adhered to its one-China policy. Thailand did not want to see any activity that would heighten tension and undermine peace and stability in the region.
Thailand hoped that all parties concerned would be patient and comply with international laws, respect territorial sovereignty and integrity and solve problems peacefully, he said.
TheeratNawamawat, spokeswoman of the Labour Ministry, said that as China announced to conduct military exercises with live ammunition in the sea and sky of the Taiwan Strait on Aug 4-7, the ministry checked situations in Taiwan through its offices in Taipei and Kaohsiung and found that situations remained normal in Taiwan.
The Taiwanese government only warned its people not to bring their boats offshore. Meanwhile, Thai workers continued with their work and stayed at their workplaces. Therefore, the military exercises would not affect Thai workers, Mrs Theerat said. (TNA)
