BANGKOK, 6 September 2015 (NNT) – The Skill Development Department has this year started cooperating with neighboring Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia in holding labour skill enhancement training in various fields, as suggested by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Director-General of the Department M.L. Puntrik Smiti says the training provides both senior and junior workers language courses in English and neighboring languages. The training provides at the same time skill enhancement in various fields such as electrical and welding work, air conditioner repairs, tourism and service.

About 1,800 labour teachers and 1,500 junior workers have passed the language courses. The department requests cooperation from employers to support further training that are done in person and online. Previously, the department had trained language skill to 50,000 workers per year, but plan to cover 150,000 workers annually.

He said the department would conduct survey with workers and employers in Thailand and the neighboring countries to use the data on their demands to improve the course curriculums and ask for greater budget in the future.
