Dr. Opas said the department has gained more confidence that this disease is not easily transmissible without skin-to-skin contact.

Health authorities in Thailand have reported no new cases of monkeypox, in addition to the first five cases discovered earlier.

The Department of Disease Control said those in close contact with the five patients have so far tested negative for the monkeypox virus, with the 21-day cautionary period now over for those in close contact with the first two cases.

Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, Director General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), said the department has gained more confidence that this disease is not easily transmissible without skin-to-skin contact.

He noted the surveillance of this disease will remain stringent, with healthcare facilities particularly skin and sexually transmitted disease clinics on high alert for probable cases.

The department is working to ensure effective disease screening at border checkpoints, proactive disease surveillance in at-risk venues, and the preparedness of laboratories and healthcare facilities for testing and treatment. (NNT)
