BANGKOK, Thailand –– Thailand’s commitment to children’s rights took center stage as Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), inaugurated the 35th Children’s Rights Forum under the theme “Creating Safe Zones for Every Child”, November 23.

Held to commemorate Universal Children’s Day (November 20) and the 32nd anniversary of Thailand’s participation in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the event brought together policymakers, youth representatives, and stakeholders to discuss ways to enhance the safety and well-being of children.

Fostering Youth Participation

Minister Varawut emphasized the importance of youth involvement in shaping policies and creating a safer society. He outlined the ministry’s 5×5 Crisis Breakthrough Policy, which aims to equip children and youth with essential life and career skills while ensuring their rights and safety are protected.

“This forum is a platform for children and youth to voice their concerns, contribute to policy-making, and advocate for measures that address the challenges they face today,” said Mr. Varawut.

The forum’s goals included:

  1. Promoting awareness of children’s rights and the importance of youth participation.
  2. Addressing issues such as violence and safety through policy dialogues.
  3. Encouraging young people to propose innovative solutions to societal challenges.

Call for Action

Mr. Varawut urged all sectors, including government agencies, private organizations, and educational institutions, to collaborate in creating safe environments for children. “Let us work together to make every space – from homes and schools to communities – genuinely safe for our children,” he said.

The forum also collected input from youth participants to inform future policies, ensuring they reflect the changing dynamics of Thai society and the needs of younger generations.

Building a Safer Future

As the 35th Children’s Rights Forum concluded, it left a clear message: children and youth are not only the future but active contributors to the present. The ministry reaffirmed its dedication to fostering their growth and ensuring their safety, laying the foundation for a society where every child can thrive. (TNA)
