Thailand hosts 3rd ASEAN Social Work Consortium Conference

BANGKOK, Aug 14 — The Thai Ministry of Social Development and Human Security on Thursday hosted the 3rd Conference of the ASEAN Social Work Consortium to boost cooperation between social work education practitioners and institutes both in Thailand and n other ASEAN member states.

Permanent Secretary for Social Development and Human Security Vichien Chavalit presided over the 3rd ASEAN Social Work Consortium Conference at a hotel in Bangkok to strengthen ASEAN cooperation in social work sector as part of the preparation for the ASEAN Community in 2015.

The conference brought together about one hundred social work professionals from 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), ASEAN+3 (China, South Korea and Japan), and representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and other public and private agencies.

Mr Vichien said Thailand and the Philippines can serve as the role models for other ASEAN states as both nations have adopted legislation concerning the social work profession while social work curricula is taught in two universities in Thailand, Thammasat and Huachiew Chalermprakiet universities.
