In New Delhi, the Thai Foreign Minister and the Indian Minister of Culture jointly inaugurated a photo exhibition celebrating the deep cultural and religious ties between Thailand and India.

Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa and Indian Minister of Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat co-inaugurated the photo exhibition “Thailand-India Interwoven Legacies: Stream of Faith in Buddhism.”

Minister Maris expressed deep gratitude to the Indian government for supporting the historic event of temporarily enshrining the Buddha’s relics and the relics of his chief disciples, Sariputta and Moggallana, in four regions of Thailand earlier this year.

Over 4 million Thai people visited these relics during this period, highlighting the deep-rooted cultural and religious ties between Thailand and India. The exhibition in New Delhi features photographs capturing the public veneration of these relics, reflecting the profound connection and shared heritage of Buddhism between the two countries.

The exhibition is open to the public from now to August 4th. The photographs depict the relics’ journey across Thailand, including ceremonies in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, and Krabi, where Buddhist devotees gathered in large numbers to pay their respects.

Indian Minister Shekhawat appreciated the significant Thai participation in venerating the relics, marking the first time these sacred items were temporarily enshrined outside India. He noted that this cultural heritage strengthens the special relationship between Thailand and India. (NNT)
