The Loy Krathong festival has begun in many provinces under New Normal practices, while airport authorities in Chiang Mai are reminding travelers to recheck their itineraries as 52 flights to and from Chiang Mai were experiencing schedule changes on November 19 and 20, in light of the Loy Krathong period.
Chiang Mai Airport indicated that 37 flights on November 19 were seeing changes to their departure and arrival times whereas 8 flights were being canceled. 15 flights on November 20 were seeing changes to their schedules and 8 flights were being canceled. Travelers were urged to prepare extra time for coming to the airport and recheck the statuses of their flights.
Flights were being suspended after 7 pm on both days to avoid the risk to aircraft presented by flying lanterns, which are released each year during the Loy Krathong period.
In Chonburi province, Loy Krathong festivities began on 17 Nov in Bang Phra sub-district, Si Racha district amid rigorous COVID-19 prevention measures. Every seller looking to set up shop on the festival grounds had to be tested for Covid using the ATK method. Festivalgoers were checked at screening points, and were told to keep their masks on at all times.
In Sukhothai province, festivities began on 18 Nov and will continue until November 20. Decorations and lights were put up around Sukhothai Historical Park and fireworks, and cultural shows were being prepared for the three evenings of Loy Krathong activities there. The provincial governor has placed emphasis on holding the festival under New Normal tourism measures, where the sale of food and entertainment activities was not allowed. (NNT)
