Thailand, Malaysia strengthen defense, border ties

Bangkok – Thailand and Malaysia have confirmed their strong defense and border ties during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan and Jojie Samuel MC Samuel, the Malaysian ambassador to Thailand.

On Friday, Gen Prawit in his capacity as the Minister for Defense received the newly-appointed ambassador at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Bangkok.

The two parties talked about cooperation on various fronts including national and regional security, economic growth along the border, infrastructure development at border crossings, and tourism.

In terms of defense cooperation, Gen Prawit and the visiting ambassador agreed to fight human trafficking, drug smuggling, illegal entry and migration, and dual citizenships.

Ambassador Jojie said Malaysia is willing to work with Thailand on intelligence collection and sharing for the safety and stability of both nations and their peoples.
