Thailand preparing inoculation for 16 million people in seven groups

Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha said AstraZeneca would start to deliver its locally produced vaccine doses to the government in June and the ministry was preparing inoculation for 16 million people in seven groups.

Registration for COVID-19 vaccination will start on May 1 for 16 million at-risk people, according to the Public Health Ministry.



Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha said AstraZeneca would start to deliver its locally produced vaccine doses to the government in June and the ministry was preparing inoculation for 16 million people in seven groups. They are those aged 60 years old and over as well as people with lung diseases, renal diseases, stroke, cancer, diabetes and obesity.


The government will receive 6 million doses in June and 10 million doses in July from AstraZeneca. People in the groups could register for their inoculation on the Mor Prom account via the Line chat app from May 1 onwards and the vaccination would start on June 7, Mr Sathit said.



People aged 18-59 years old can register for their COVID-19 vaccination on July 1 and inoculation for them will begin in either August or September.

Thailand reported 10 new coronavirus deaths and 1,871 new cases on Thursday, bringing the death toll to 188 and the total number of infections to 63,570. (TNA)
