A memorandum of understanding has been signed for the promotion of food safety and monitoring of THC and CBD content in products with cannabis as an ingredient. Under the MOU, the Department of Health and Central Laboratory Thailand Co., Ltd. will also jointly analyze food and drink samples from street food vendors.
Department of Health Director-General Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai signed the collaboration agreement with Central Laboratory Thailand Co., Ltd. The agreement is aimed at promoting laboratory analysis capacity and research in the fields of health and environmental health. The two agencies also intend to circulate nutrition information that has an impact on people’s health.
The agreement has a 3-year implementation period, during which the quality of water from certain sources will be analyzed for any chemical contamination. This is to foster public confidence about the safety of using rainwater as an alternative water source. The two agencies will also monitor THC and CBD contents in ready-made food that uses cannabis as an ingredient. This is to make sure the products have no undesirable effects on health. The agencies will also monitor street food products in the interest of food safety.
If health risks are detected in any food product, the seller or producer will be informed so corrections can be made. These efforts to foster food safety are in line with the government’s policy of having Thailand serve as the kitchen to the world. (NNT)
