The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has organized a media series on ‘Khon’, Thailand’s gorgeous and hypnotic masked dance drama, to showcase and promote this traditional art form both within the kingdom and beyond.
Khon was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in November 2018 – making it the first Thai performing art to be included on the list.
Being considered one of the most important performing arts in Thailand, the Ministry of Culture’s Department of Cultural Promotion, in 2009, designated Khon as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Khon, a notable type of dance and art that dates back to the Ayutthaya period, has a particular personality that incorporates diverse sectors of the arts, literature, rituals, and crafts. The performance gives ideas, mottos, moral ideals, and ethics that are practical in everyday life.
Khon has been passed down from generation to generation and is now performed in educational institutions, schools, communities, and other venues around Thailand. (NNT) https://vimeo.com/749426309
