BANGKOK, 18 August 2011– Thailand is gearing up to host the 4th APEC Youth Science Festival during 20-26 August in honor of His Majesty the King’s seventh cycle birthday anniversary this year.
Mr Somchai Tiamboonprasert, Counselor of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, announced that the 4th APEC Youth Science Festival was about to be held by Thailand under the title ‘From Nature to Technology’ from 20 to 26 August. It will take place at the Sirindhorn Science Home, the Thailand Science Park, Thammasat University Rangsit Campus and the National Science Museum.
The event is made possible by three ministries, comprising the Ministries of Education, Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology, as well as the public and private sectors. Its objectives are to raise youth’s awareness of the importance of science and technology and to educate them on environmental problems, which are becoming more severe.
In addition, the science festival also aims to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the occasion of his seventh cycle birthday anniversary on 5 December this year, as His Majesty has been named the ‘Father of Thai Technology’ and the ‘Father of Thai Innovation’.
Mr Somchai projected that this year’s event would attract up to 666 visitors, ranging from students and teachers to researchers from APEC member nations.
